Fenomeni tipo il consumo etico, il fair-trade, gli investimenti a responsabilità sociale e la responsabilità sociale d’impresa, sono tutti ambiti in forte ascesa. Ad essi si affiancano valute virtuali e locali e sistemi di rating tra pari che rendono ancora più concreta e fattiva la creazione e ridistribuzione di valore in comunità sociali globalizzate che condividono un set di valori comuni.
Visto superficialmente sembrerebbe una propagazione più etica dell’economia classica, ma è in uscita un libro che coglie in essi un cambiamento più strutturale e l’emergere di un nuovo paradigma.

Six months after the end of the research part of Openwear, culminated with the release of the Openwear e-book on open and p2p fashion, we can draw more precise theoretical frameworks from the data and insights collected in the book. I will expose them in a series of posts on the blog, hoping that they will ignite a wider discussion in the networks that cross our community.
This first contribution is about the meaning of quality in the processes of co-design, peer-design, distributed manufacturing, etc.

Hello, I am Jen Ballie a textile designer / researcher at University of the arts, London. I am currently working on a practice based PhD project titled: E-co-Textile Design: How can a textile design practice sustainably influence an emerging digital consumer culture?
My research aims to initiate new fashion experiences and interactions by utilizing co-design methods and embedding web 2.0 throughout the design process. These explorations offer an alternative approach to fast disposable fashion and promote sustainable consumption.
Throughout my research I have been collecting case studies that address the concept of participation and invite fashion consumers to contribute to the overall design of new products and services. This was compiled into a presentation titled Co-Everything: Defining Co-Design for Fashion & Textiles.

La primavera è sbocciata e sentiamo che è il momento giusto per lanciare la community Openwear in modo più “ufficiale”. Siamo la prima community che si occupa di moda con un brand open-source e che fornisce strumenti per fare rete e di autoformazione per tutti quelli che si interessano alla moda indipendente, sociale, critica con un approccio dedicato alla produzione locale, alle nuove tecnologie aperte e alla collaborazione.
Come si è visto nei mesi passati, ci piace concentrarci sul fare. Per questo abbiamo deciso di organizzare un evento a Milano in collaborazione con Vectorealism, il servizio che offre taglio laser online, nella creazione dell’evento Wefab – Make the right thing. Dal 14 al 16 aprile, offriremo ai visitatori del Salone del Mobile un spazio e un tempo dove esplorare le possibilità messe a disposizione dal taglio laser e dalla stampa 3d ma soprattottuo delle opportunità che l’approccio collaborativo e dai codici aperti può offrire a al settore creativo, specialmente la moda e il design.

Last autumn the focus was on models of sustainability and after 4 months of work upon the outputs of the forum debates, an “how-to guide” is finally out.
The aim of this document is to promote innovative strategies to defend and extend the sphere in which human creativity and knowledge can prosper freely and sustainably.
It’s addressed to policy reformers, citizens but also free/libre culture activists and creative-sector workers to provide them practical tools to actively operate this change.
